Character Counts Week is Coming

October 20-26 is Charater Counts Week.  There are lots of reasons to focus on positive character traits. Our school uses the 6 recommended by our state and utilizes the resources available on this web site

character counts.org  The counseling bulletin board says I can bee.... trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring, and a good citizen.  Our super parent volunteer made this 3-D display that definitely captures the eyes of all the people in our school!

Unity Day October 9

All our students in grades 1-5 wrote a statement about how to make our school a safe place.  Our links are now spelling UNITE on our cafeteria windows. Our students and staff plan to wear orange tomorrow, "Make it orange. Make it end."

New book about friendship

I had the pleasure of sharing this book with a kindergarten class at my school this week.  I am going to start pulling students from this class for "lunch bunch" and I had not been in the room since the first week of school.  This is a great book about friendship and persistence. I will be adding it to my book shelf.

National Bullying Prevention Month

As part of our schoolwide bullying program we participate in Unity Day sponsored by Pacer.org.  This year we are using the idea provided in the resource kit Project Connect I had my parent volunteer cut a paper strip for each student in grade 1-5 to write a sentence on orange paper what they can do to make our school safe and reduce bullying.  Each class is giving me their links connected in a paper chain.  For Unity Day next Wednesday my volunteer (and I) will hang the chains together and spell out UNITE.  Then hopefully many students and staff will remember to wear orange on October 9. Unity Day has a great elementary level flyer I have copied and hung around our school to promote this special day as part of our month long campaign to promote a school climate wear everyone is safe, caring, and respectful.
