May Is Mental Health Awareness Month

As counselors we care about mental health. There is so much stigma still attached to mental illness that needs to be addressed. Please take advantage of Mental Health Awareness Month to speak up about mental illness and be proactive in reducing the stigma. Get free resources at mentalhealthamerica Last year I took advantage of the awareness campaign to speak to my PTA about children's mental health. Our school district requires all secondary schools to plan activities about mental health during May. They do some fun wellness carnivals with activities like yoga, bubbles, Fitbit contests, etc. I always display a large bulletin board outside my office about children being affected by mental illness. May 10 is the day of the month that focuses on children samhsa.gov/children/awareness-day

  1. Each year millions of people around the world face the reality of living with a mental illness. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the mental health of people of all ages. Now, more than ever, it is critical to reduce the stigma around mental health struggles, because that stigma often prevents individuals from seeking help. May is celebrated as Mental Health Awareness Month around the world and we at Tava Mitram also prioritizes spreading the awareness of Mental Health and mental wellbeing through diffirent initiatives and activities.
